The Road to the 75k Invite
2007 has been a year of ups and downs for Chewey. Numerous near money finishes in various WSOP events, small money finishes in a few tournaments, and a few small jackpots along the way have kept the year afloat. Early on in 2007, the goal was simple: prep for a WSOP bracelet, a money finish or two in various WSOP events. However, 2007 brought about many decisions & unshakable experiences: the loss of a close friend "HB" in January, clouded the path, left more questions unanswered than answered; The juggling of divergent career paths: poker and non-poker, health concerns, & the loss of a family member in late fall contributed to what seemed like insurmountable obstacles to overcome.
Through it all, I have played poker in all types of environments & situations and do the one skill that I like: analyze. I could have taken the easy way out and said "I'm not ready, too much on my mind and I need to focus on my career outside of poker" but that is not what I'm looking for; what I'm looking for is to make a difference and make my presence known in the poker world. Your exclusive access inside the world of Chewey: The Road to the 75k On the River Invitational" begins now.
Dec 1, 2007: Chewey plays in a local NPT free tournament and finishes 7th through conservative play and begins the regimen of playing one online turbo tournament daily. Dec 3, 2007 Chewey plays in 2 local NPT free tournaments and finishes 14th & 9th through more conservative play & also adds daily live play with his friend Kozmo to the regiment. December 8, 2007: a 12th place finish and an early bust out in two NPT tournament mark a disappointing day and push Chewey back into the online arena for more training and practice for the upcoming tournament at Harrah's. The next 7 days bring about a 1st, and 3rd place finish in local NPT tournaments. The once disappointing daily regiment is now starting to payoff. Dec 15 & 16: play in two online tournaments of 20,000+ players yield a 2,163rd & 912th finish not anything to brag about but definitely the pace has been set for the month. Utilizing the online environment, Chewey trains and plays in a more aggressive and pressure style of poker to develop the same style for live tournament play. Dec 17: a 3rd place finish in a local NPT tournament through utilizing online play style culminates an intense 10 day training period for the upcoming tournament at Harrah's.
